Stephanie H. Shih, a self-taught, full-time artist based in Brooklyn, New York, creates ceramic groceries. Her project started back in 2018 when she began the process of recreating the Chinatown grocery stores of her youth.

“Through the lens of the Asian American pantry, my ceramic sculptures explore how shared nostalgia can connect a diaspora across geography, heritage, and class,” the artist wrote on her website. She then added that in the last three years she has folded over 1,500 porcelain dumplings and sculpted a kitchen’s worth of instant noodles, soy sauce, spam, and 50-pound bags of rice.

If you have a peek at her creations, you’ll notice how the labels she bases off of iconic products are made with so much precision and accuracy. All of her sculptures are made of polymer clay and later painted with acrylic paint.

“At this point, my art practice is as much about research and community-building as it is about sculpting and painting. I can spend hours researching the era-appropriate packaging for a given grocery, and I love crowd-sourcing shared nostalgia from the Asian-American diaspora,” she said in an interview for Ballpit.

Seattle-based Fox Luu is a talented artist and nature lover who creates beautiful polymer clay figurines, inspired by his love for furry living beings. When he was a little boy raised in Vietnam, Luu was wondered which job would suit him perfectly. Soon he realized that art was his true passion and the thing he liked the most.

Figurines of foxes, birds, cats, spiders, and dogs are just some of the pieces the artist likes spending time creating. Every animal or fantasy creature is designed and made exclusively by him.

“I also love getting lost in my own space, which is me and my paints, brushes, clay, and my creativity—that is when I try to come up with art that is out of my comfort zone. I love to make weird and fantasy animals. I create new items every week,” he shared on his website.

His Instagram account, which counts more than 18,600 followers, hosts beautiful and colorful images of his handmade products. The photographs are taken with great precision so the audience could see every small detail.

Luu has a shop where you can purchase his artworks, but is also open for commissions. If you are interested to see his creations, check out the gallery below.

Many people love miniatures as they remind them of childhood. The creative Raminta makes adorable miniatures from clay under her brand Ramalama Creatures. She shows that simple materials like oven-bake clay can turn into real masterpieces in the hands of great artists. She turned into a pro over time, and now her portfolio includes numerous creatures like birds, hedgehogs, snakes, bears, and many more.

“The process of making every creature and animal is very personal to me,” Brown Paper Bag quotes her, “it takes dozens of hours to complete the sculpture until it is exceptionally carefully hand-painted with maximum of details and finished with glossy varnish.”

She needs days for each piece, but the satisfaction of seeing each of them coming together is what makes her keep going. Scroll down to see her work.
