Charlie Bennell’s Landscapes Will Help You Find Serenity

Sydney-based artist, Charlie Bennell, treats art as a way to stay connected with the world around her—and with herself. “It keeps me curious- always searching for inspiration,” she remarked once in an interview with Ballpitmag. “It also often acts as a meditation for me.”

Ironically enough, while art forms the bridge between Bennell and the world around her, her paintings are void of people. Eerily empty, her landscapes provide a meditative space where the viewer is invited to roam freely. With an appreciation for architectural movements and how they relate to a spiritual aura, Bennell’s work explores the relationships between seemingly opposite notions such as light and shadow, solid and void, and movement and stillness.

Having studied at UNSW Art and Design in Sydney and Parsons School of Design in New York, Bennell has mastered a variety of mediums, including screen-printing, digital illustration, and painting, the latter being her absolute favorite.

“Sometimes I start with a drawing in a notebook while I’m sitting in the park”, she relayed, explaining her work process, “sometimes I start digitally so that I can constantly rework, erase and change shapes or colors until I am happy with the final work.”

You’d want to explore her meditative landscapes.
