If you’re a huge cat lover and enjoy seeing them at every turn, you’ll find Lim Heng Swee’s art super-relatable. This artist became a true sensation thanks to his minimal landscape illustrations, but once you take a closer look at them, you’ll notice cats everywhere!
Swee is a self-taught illustrator from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and we’ve seen him explore many different subjects through his art over the years. The main reason, however, why he has over 280,000 Instagram followers, is his minimal cat illustrations… but how did they come to be?
“I started to explore minimal landscape drawing styles and found that the curves and shapes of the land have a lot of similarities with the curve and shape of the cat. I tried to blend the two elements together and the resulting cat illustrations are surprisingly great,” the artist told Bored Panda.
He could’ve gone with any other animal, but it’s not a coincidence he picked cats. Swee always enjoyed their curious, calm, and relaxed nature, and decided to create illustrations that capture it perfectly. Cats are playing hide and seek with observers in his illustrations, staying constantly playful, elusive, and untouchable – just like they are in real life.
