]]>Woodard fell in love with woodworking at a young age, thanks to his father who was also a carpenter. He encouraged his children to make everything by hand, and the young Woodard enjoyed making spoons as a kid and giving them as gifts.
“Everything in our house was handmade. Spoons, toys, Christmas ornaments. As a kid, I drew, painted, made things… A lot of the stuff I do is a return to childhood, in a way. Mostly in just not being afraid. Being joyfully expressive without worrying about how commercial something is,” he told Fine Woodworking.
Even though woodworking was in his DNA, he never saw it as a viable career option. He pursued a business degree, but a corporate job in Washington, D.C. left him unsatisfied, so he started spending all of his free time working at a furniture maker’s woodshop.
He eventually started making his own furniture and realized he could do it full-term once his pieces started selling. He eventually moved back to Nashville and opened his own studio, crafting some of the most show-stopping, textured chairs, cabinets, and tables that you’ll ever come across.

]]>Jang takes all sorts of unwanted objects, ranging from tires to empty cans and boxes, and arranges them into a shape of a table or a chair. He then wraps them in a layer of vinyl, finishing their transformation and making them look like unique pieces you would want to have in your home.
“Chairs consisting of the physical properties of tires and hoses enter our space in a similar but different way. This chair is a process of finding the value of our lives, aiming for an attitude of looking at existing things differently rather than creating new things,” Seungtae Jang explains.
Seungtae Jang’s intricate furniture has been lauded by fellow designers and exhibited at various festivals, including the reputable Seoul Design Festival. Jang frequently shares updates about his “WRAPPING” series on social media, where he also posts his newest creations. Check more of them below.

]]>Her inspiration came from wanting to make something with nature, “Nature has paths and things get stuck along the way. I wanted to do the same with wood, to take it and do something to it that’s never been done,” she told The Times of Israel.
To make the tops smooth, she fills in the gaps and divets in the natural wood from raw cypress and eucalyptus with molten aluminum. The burning of the molten aluminum on the surface of the raw wooden logs creates a beautiful black layer of carbon to make a boundary between the silvery color of the aluminum and the wood’s natural colors.
“We focus on material research and development of forms, while drawing inspiration from the process of time and the supposed imperfections found in nature,” Shamia told Colossal. Her furniture collection fuses the wood with cool metal for functional pieces that will make a statement when added to any room.
