]]>Schreckinger’s illustrations often see detailed depictions of animals interacting with each other or the world in unexpected ways. Octopuses are looking through a telescope while riding turtles, groups of stacked rabbits are jumping over trees, and giant birds are using lighthouses as their resting spots.
According to Schreckinger, her style was influenced by her fascination with colorless media. She enjoyed black-and-white photographs, television shows, and movies while growing up, so using black ink and graphite for her art felt like an obvious decision.
“Being exposed to the lighting effects and sharp contrasts shown in these photographs and films greatly inspired the type of work that she does today,” she explains in the artist statement posted on her website.
Schreckinger also adds that her work is centered around “giving a voice to nature and animals, with the goal of showcasing their importance in this world.” This is why most of her works feature either endangered animals or ones that are considered vulnerable in modern times.

]]>You’ll see all sorts of puzzling scenes in Hoekstra’s illustrations, like seahorse in aquarium tank riding chameleons. And you’ll probably wonder how in the world he came up with them, but the answer is simpler than you imagine—a fascination with the world that surrounds us.
According to the artist, this fascination, paired with his wish to know how things work, often takes him to strange places and allows him to come up with all sorts of new and unusual creations.
“I play with form, meaning, and function while new combinations arise,” Hoekstra shares on his website. “Often surprising, strange and funny but also with a strange kind of logic, a fantastic and surreal world.”
Despite their focus on surrealism, Hoekstra’s illustrations are realistic in style. This is on purpose, as the artist wants to “make the alienation most powerful.” It also requires a lot of work, with one drawing taking up to 40 hours to be completed.

]]>Eazy uses his expert Photoshop skills to create astonishing scenery in which he combines the world’s architecture with nature. He also displaces famous monuments to different surroundings, causing an intriguing change of perception.
In a recent interview, Eazy revealed that love for architecture and fantasy was instilled in him by his father. While being a young kid, he would often draw surreal scenes and came up with his own magical worlds. Then he discovered Photoshop and realized he didn’t have to draw anymore. Instead, he could go one step further and bring his imagination to “life” via this editing software.
Eazy doesn’t provide any details about the scenery he creates besides the photo, leaving it to the viewer to interpret the work in the way they deem fit. Some perceive his creations as fairytale worlds, while others believe they represent a vision of a post-apocalyptic future.
“I find it interesting to see the multitude of interpretations of my ‘mysterious’ creations,” he shared.

]]>Schulze’s creative process starts with thrift and antique shops, where he searches for artworks that date back to the 20th century. This includes oil paintings, advertisement posters, and photographs.
After finding the piece he likes, Schulze starts the restoration process by working directly on the canvas. He restores the faded colors but also adds some dramatic scenes. This includes flooded libraries, horses in flamingo colors, and Starbucks coffee shops in the 1940s.
It’s not hard to see why people love his work so much. They inspire in such a way that makes you ready to embark on a project of your own. It’s clear that Schulze is a master of his craft who worked tirelessly to get to the place he is today. Genius might be born, but skill takes years and years of toilsome practice. And the result is these wonderful paintings!

]]>“I consider myself a romantic surrealist,” he told Putsch. With influences that include Art Nouveau, Belle Époque, Gothic, Renaissance, Victorian, and vaudeville, he acknowledges nature as his greatest inspiration.
Born in 1963 in a small fishing village in Maine, Merriam taught himself to paint at a very young age. “Between sailing, fishing, and diving I had spent as much time in the water as I did out,” he recalls. “My world was fashioned from the rawness of nature’s reality and the fanciful treatments of my perception.”
According to Merriam, his connection to nature is ingrained in shapes and patterns within his art. “Both my family and our community possessed a whimsical quality that remains in my art to this day,” he notes.
He went on to study mechanical and architectural design at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute, before turning to the field of architectural design, where his illustrations received numerous awards. It was in 1986 that he shifted his focus solely to fine art.
Since then, Merriam had exhibited his work throughout the United States and Europe. Amongst his notable achievements was exhibiting his paintings next to those of Salvador Dali in a museum show entitled Venus and the Female Intuition.
“Anytime I encounter really good art, I want to go back to the studio and create,” he says. “It’s as if the artist showed me the possibilities. They introduced me to a feeling and I have to have more. The artist does not need to be there in person. Their soul is displayed in their artwork.”

]]>The artist takes famous scenes from cult movies and mixes them with classic oil-on-canvas pieces. This sounds like it’s both ‘nothing special’ and fascinating at the same time, but believe us, it is the latter!
Just imagine Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, but instead of seeing her mystic face you get Uma Thurman, with the Pulp Fiction motive spreading all over her face. Remarkable!
Remember that scene from La-La Land where Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have their backs turned while abstractedly gazing at the sky? Well, imagine it with a background of the real “la-la” land – Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night!
The Starry Night also keeps light to Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) as he does some fishing!
You get the idea, but talking about it is worthless if you don’t see it for yourself!
