Keeping things simple can sometimes lead to great things, especially if you’re trying to find success as an illustrator. Tango Gao is a case in point and he became a true Instagram sensation thanks to his hilarious and incredibly relatable comics, which also happen to look as simple as it gets.
Tango’s real name is actually Gao Youjun, and he created thousands of illustrations since starting his creative journey. He fell in love with art while growing up in Shanghai, drawing and sculpting from an early age. One of his teachers even advised him to attend an art institute in Zhejiang Province, but his parents were against it so he studied mathematics instead.
Despite opting for a less creative academic path, he simply couldn’t let art go. This proved to be his true calling, but studying math wasn’t a waste because it helped him develop his unique style.
“It was during that time that I developed my own language. Drawing my cartoons is very much like working on a math problem. I get great joy in surprising others with an unexpected result after an impeccable reasoning process,” Tango told Sup China.
This artist manages to make his illustrations light and funny without using words, and they’re all about finding humor in the mundane. His Instagram page attracted almost 250,000 followers so far and we’re 100% sure his comics will crack you up.
