Add a Whimsical Twist to Your Tea Set with Katy Stubbs

Who said art should take itself seriously? Take for instance Katy Stubbs’ ceramic sets. Some more practical than others, her pieces add a humoristic touch to their everyday surroundings. It’s little wonder the Cape Town-born, London-based artist mentions the Simpsons and Edward Gorey amongst her inspiration.

Originally trained in illustration with a BFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Stubbs now works out of her studio in Brixton.

“I love that I can make all aspects of a piece,” said the artist in an interview with Horst und Edeltraut Magazine. “It’s not just painting on to a canvas that already has a set form. I get to use the ceramic shapes to help tell my story.” And what a story it is.

Check out some of her ceramic pieces in the gallery below. Do you have a favorite?
