Anne Lemanski Stitches Paper and Fabric to Create Colorful Animal Sculptures

Anne Lemanski’s animal sculptures are all but ordinary. This is thanks to their colorful nature, which features all sorts of intricate patterns and designs, as well as the unusual materials this North Carolina-based artist uses.

Lemanski starts her pieces as a copper armature. She then creates the shape of an animal by stitching together pieces of paper, fabric, vinyl, and other materials. The way these materials come together is not random—on the contrary. The mixing of materials often reflects the character of the animal or something related to them.

Most of Lemanski’s works are not just gallery pieces—they often have a bigger story to tell. With her sculptures, she aims to spread awareness about the well-being of wildlife and show how human activity impacts animals in a harmful way.

For example, one of her tiger sculptures is situated on a circus ball. This immediately prompts the viewer to consider how these majestic cats are still being exploited for performance acts despite being proven that this is cruelty towards animals.

Lemanski’s works are highly regarded in the art world and have been exhibited in galleries all over the world. The artist also often shares them on her social media. Continue scrolling to check out more of them.
