Artist Creates Beautiful Paper Cutouts Inspired by His Origin

Parth Kothekar is an Indian artist who creates beautiful paper cutouts inspired by the traditional paisley pattern. To make his work, Kothekar uses a craft knife, and each piece can take up to seven days to complete.

The whole process of creating art is what inspires him the most, he says. “If it is challenging, it motivates me,” he shared on My Modern Met. “This time, I wished to go intricate like never before which motivated me to work with paisley designs.”

Except for crafting paper paisley designs, he also has an entire portfolio of other paper cutouts. Ornate architecture and human portraits are just some of the creations this Indian artist does.

“The thing with paper cutouts is that one doesn’t know the final output until the end,” he added. “I have an assumption of what it might look and that is what I work with. It is the curiosity of finding out if I have got it that keeps me going.”
