Artist Transforms Old Cutlery Into Amazing Animal Sculptures

Matt Wilson describes his art as a reflection of the environment he lives. He believes that using recycled materials will help in preserving our natural resources.

“My goal as an artist is to make artwork unlike art people have seen, while at the same time recognizable in the identity of everyday materials. I only hope the sculptures will inspire others to appreciate the simple, neglected items from which my creations are born,” he wrote on Etsy.

He became interested in metal sculpture after moving to Charleston, S.C. in 2006. He was offered a unique opportunity, to become the resident artist of Detyens Shipyards, where he also learned how to weld.

Up to this day, the South Carolina-based artist continues to work on his shop, called AirtightArtwork, using scrap and old metals such as knives, forks, and other cutleries.  He transforms these materials into amazing animal sculptures and we just can’t get enough of his creations.
