Crisafi is currently based in Chicago, but his body of work is heavily influenced by the dark history of his home state of Massachusetts. We’ve seen him explore everything from illustration to sculpture over the years, but he caught our eyes when he started making haute couture masks that reflect his love for the occult.
Crisafi usually explores the themes of magic and folklore through his work, but a touch of camp and humor is present in all of them. This way, his masks manage to look scary and funny at the same time, and their duality is one of their strongest suits.
Crisafi works closely with fashion designer Hogan McLaughlin, whose client list includes the likes of Lady Gaga and Billy Porter. They share the same vision and love for dark romance and fantastical tales, and Crisafi’s masks look their best when they’re used as companion pieces to McLaughlin’s dresses at fashion shows.
