Chinese Illustrator Makes Artwork Inspired By Futurism and Sci-Fi Movies

Iris Lei is a Chinese freelance illustrator who creates art inspired by futurism. Lei, whose real name is Xiao, grew up watching famous fantasy movies like Harry Potter. However, recently, she became obsessed with sci-fi films, in which narrative, character design, and aesthetics stimulate her brain cells and inspires her artwork.

She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and received her degree in illustration. Browsing through her Instagram page, you might notice a color pattern. According to her, she likes using “a sunset palette” while doing her images.

“I see the sunset as a moment between day and night, life and death, a transition from shared space to personal space. It is a really beautiful, dynamic, and magical time of the day,” she said in an interview for Ballpit.

All of her illustrations start with intensive research. Then, she makes the sketches digitally and experiments with compositions and colors. She currently has only a couple of hundred followers on Instagram. However, let’s hope it will change in the future because her futuristic artwork is worth checking out.
