Chris Austin Paints Sharks Swimming in Air

Chris Austin is a self-taught painter and illustrator who is fascinated with sharks. To break the stereotypes that sharks are dangerous, the Toronto-based artist created a series of paintings titled Swimming in Air.

“I have always been fascinated by the vast elusiveness of the ocean. As of lately, the shark is one of the most feared things on the planet and I’d like to help change that perspective through my work,” the artist shared in an interview for My Modern Met and added he mostly seeks inspiration from his peers.

“Seeing their drive and determination, as well as what they produce daily, motivates me…there are far too many of them to list,” Austin revealed.

Alongside with these ocean-creatures, the Canadian artist depicts other animals, as well. In his gallery, you can see mesmerizing images of bears, deer, foxes, and orcas.
