At least this is how LA is generalized to those of us living outside of its sunny, shiny, perfect bubble. So when I headed to the City of Angels for my first time earlier this year, I had high hopes thanks to a long-term love affair with California — but zero clue what to expect.⠀ ⠀ I knew I didn’t want to run around the city trying to do everything and be everywhere, taking pics of the same things you already see all over social media. I wanted to experience LA through the eyes of someone who lives and loves it every day; I desperately wanted to like LA.⠀ ⠀ So, instead of overwhelming myself with research I went against my type-A, super-planned-out travel approach and asked my friend who lives there what he likes to do. He gave me a long list of his favourite ways to spend his days, mostly low-key, “live like a local” type experiences, and without a moment of hesitation I said, “let’s do it all.”⠀ ⠀ So, I spent 8 days neighbourhood-hopping through LA, without much of a plan, with an old friend I hadn’t seen in 12 years. I left this experience with a profound appreciation for the city, but also with more than just ⠀ a new connection with an old friend — but one with myself too.⠀ ⠀ There’s something to be said about taking a step in the dark without a plan. Sometimes the best memories are made and connections formed when you open yourself up to the unknown and let life (or a vacation) take you where you’re meant to be — rather than where you’ve planned to be.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #illo #illustrationartists #losangelesworld #womenofillustration #empoweringwomen #creativewomen #illustratorsofinstagram #editorialillustration #creativeprocess #illustratedwomen #womenwhodraw #womenwithpencils #ilustracion #ilustração #womanhood #illustrationoftheday #visiblewomen #gouachepainting #instaartist #picame #illustration_daily #illustrationnow #theillustrationroom #gouachesketch #illustragram #procreateart #digitalartwork #claireprouvost #editorialillustrator #illustrationgram ⠀

“I’ve been playing with colors from a very young age. I’ve always loved it, and my family has always been very supportive of me pursuing an artistic career. I guess that really shaped who I am today,” Prouvost shares her beginnings in an interview for Ballpit and adds that she loves all things colorful, strong and powerful.

At the moment, her favorite thing to draw are portraits of women. “I really enjoy drawing them and their diversity. I suppose I love to draw attitudes and expressions and to say a lot of things about them, with very few lines and details. I try to shape faces and the space around them with color blocks and playing with contrast and shadows,” she said.

If you browse through her Instagram account, you will see that she loves gouaches and works with only three primary colors; yellow, red and ultramarine, and a little bit of white.
