Dave Zackin Takes Unwanted Ceramics and Gives Them New Life

Dave Zackin’s Instagram page is full of ceramic products like vases, pots, and cups. But if you ask him, he will tell you he is no ceramic artist; he cheats to seem like one.

Zackin doesn’t know how to use the wheel, but he has a lot of friends at New York City’s Gasworks ceramics studio who do. So, he simply pays them a visit and takes some of their pieces, reworks them, and gets to live his “scam” another day.

Browsing through Zackin’s works, you’ll discover that what he lacks in potter’s wheel skills, he makes up in creativity and humor. He adds funny faces and all sorts of snarky messages to the unwanted and half-finished ceramic pieces, turning them into art sculptures. His works might not get their functionality back that way, but they surely receive an attitude.

“I take all the bowls and things my friends at Gasworks NYC have discarded, and then I sculpt or paint on top of them. It is a good scam, and I love it,” he explains on his website.

Zackin shares his works on social media, with many of them being available for purchase through his webshop. Check out more below.
