Khaby Lame, the most-followed person on the social media platform TikTok, has finally become an Italian citizen. Lame emigrated from native Senegal to Italy as a child but wasn’t granted Italian citizenship until recently due to the country’s strict rules.
Lame is a viral TikTok star who gained fame with his entertaining reactions to DIY videos. In his clips, Lame shows how they are actually pointless and make things just more complicated but without saying a single thing. He currently has 148.7 million followers, while his videos received 2.4 billion likes.

Lame’s success certainly helped the process of obtaining citizenship to go a bit faster as the attention surrounding the case even caught the attention of Italy’s deputy interior minister Carlo Sibilia at one point.
“It is not that before, before signing, I didn’t feel Italian, so very little has changed,” said Lame after the news became public. “But now I am officially Italian, on paper.”

Lame hasn’t only parlayed his TikTok fame into an Italian passport but also into various other opportunities. He became a model for Hugo Boss and worked with numerous other brands. Lame also frequently has other celebrities making appearances in his videos, including AC Milan star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and tennis champion Novak Djokovic.
