Fascinating Abstract Structural Forms By Merete Rasmussen

Merete Rasmussen is a Danish sculptor that is currently based in London, UK. She is known in the art world for her abstract sculptures, or “structural forms” as the artist herself refers to them, painted in bold and vibrant colors.

Rasmussen’s pieces are characterized by their ribbon-like look. The unpredictable waves and curves come together in unusual shapes that seem like they are frozen in time.

“My shapes can represent an idea of a captured movement, as a flowing form stretching or curling around itself, or the idea can derive from repeated natural forms or even complex mathematical constructions,” says Rasmussen about her works.

The delicate appearance of Rasmussen’s sculptures is deceiving since they are built from sturdy substances. Rasmussen mainly works with ceramics and metal, as these materials allow her to turn her ideas into reality in the best way possible. The selection of bright and eye-catching colors, on the other hand, serves to build “further importance, strength, and energy” to the pieces.

Rasmussen’s works are included in the public collections of several renowned art galleries and museums. This includes the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the National Museum of Scotland, and New York City’s MAD Museum of Arts and Design. Her sculptures can also be seen on her official website and social media. Check more of them below.
