Fashion + Poetry = Rhea Ornias

Fashion illustrations are a way of displaying current trends and emerging designers in a way that is inspiring and creative in and of itself. Fashion illustrators have the ability to unpack contemporary fashion, breaking it down to its different elements.

We’ve recently taken to Rhea Ornias fashion portraits. Focused mainly on female subjects, her illustrations have a poetic depth to them that surpass current fashion trends, elevating the day to day.

Trained as a fashion designer, Ornias also has some background in architecture, which makes for a unique blend of styles and techniques. With five years of studies in architecture and more than 10 years of expertise in fashion behind her, Ornias’ tackles illustration from a different angle.

Being that she’s also a writer, she often accompanies her work with short, poems that add a layer of romanticism to her work. “My poetry is about finding your authentic self, amidst chaos in this world,” she told I Love Illustration. “I hope it will inspire self-love and courage not to sell out the dream. Life is more than being liked.”

Born in the Philippines and currently based in Australia, Ornias’ creative identity was formed quite early in life. “When I was 3 years old, I saw my aunt who was taking up architecture, painting a teardrop for her visual class,” she recalled. “It was then, as she watched the way in which the brushstroke and oil color came to life, that the creative seeds were planted.”
