French Cyclists Break Guinness World Record With Their GPS Drawing of a Velociraptor

Four French cyclists—Florent Arnaud, Franck Delorme, Maxime Brugère, and Nicolas Meunier—recently joined forces to “draw” a 637-mile-long velociraptor using the GPS-tracking feature on the Strava fitness app. In the process, they broke Guinness World Record for the largest GPS drawing by bicycle (team).

The cyclists achieved the feat by touring the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. They needed 43 hours and 47 minutes of cycling to complete the drawing, and the project took six days in total.

Arnaud, Delorme, Brugère, and Meunier, are all Guinness World Records book enthusiasts, so they wanted to try and get their names in the upcoming edition. They opted to “draw” a velociraptor because French word “velo,” which means bicycle. But this wasn’t the only reason.

With their project, the four cyclists, who are part of the “Cyclos randonneurs Saint-Galmier” cycling group, aimed to raise awareness about climate change and environmental issues. They also wanted to inspire more people to give cycling a chance.

“Dinosaurs are proof that such strong species can quickly become extinct. We are the main culprits of this environmental crisis, but also its main victims. As such, the future is in our hands, and cycling is one of the best ways to contribute to change,“ explained Brugere.
