Russian actress Kamilla Belyatskaya, 24, tragically drowned in Thailand after being swept away by powerful waves while practicing yoga during stormy weather. According to Die Welt, her body was found washed up on Chaweng Beach on December 1, about one kilometer from the accident site, after she had been missing since November 29.

A Vacation Gone Wrong

Belyatskaya was on vacation in Thailand with her fiancé, Grigory Anokin, ahead of their planned wedding in mid-December. The couple had been together for five years and were organizing their wedding ceremony on the ocean shore, intending to spend their honeymoon on Koh Samui Island.

On November 29, she went to the Lad Koh Viewpoint, a location she frequently praised on social media, to meditate alone after handling organizational issues for her wedding, as reported by Lenta.ru. Surveillance footage showed her arriving at the viewpoint at 12:57 PM, driving a red car into the parking lot, according to Al Jazeera. After parking, she opened the trunk, took out her pink yoga mat, and walked to the rocky beach to start her practice.

Tragic Incident

Shortly after she set up her mat on the rocky shores, Belyatskaya was washed away by a giant wave. Al Jazeera reported that she was unexpectedly struck by waves reaching heights of two to three meters while meditating through yoga. Witnesses said that she struggled against the waves to save herself but was unsuccessful. According to Tiền Phong, at the time of the incident, the sea was very rough, with waves reaching up to two to three meters high, and conditions were exacerbated by bad weather.

Some bystanders, including a hotel employee, tried to rescue her but were unable to reach her due to the powerful currents and high waves, as reported by Dân Trí. Rescue teams arrived 15 minutes after the incident but were hindered by strong sea currents and waves nearly three meters tall, making it impossible to reach her, according to 20 Minutos. “The high waves, nearly 3 meters tall, made rescue efforts very difficult,” stated Al Jazeera.

Her fiancé, Grigory Anokin, learned about the incident from social media and immediately went to the scene. Il Fatto Quotidiano reported that he was devastated by the news, stating: “I was devastated and immediately went to the area to help look for her. I have been with my girlfriend for five years, and we were planning to have a wedding in mid-December. We had already taken pre-wedding photos in the hope of living together when we returned to Russia.”

Belyatskaya had previously visited Koh Samui multiple times and considered it her “home”, showcasing her travels and work as a model on social media. She described Koh Samui as “the most wonderful place on Earth,” according to 20 Minutos. In one of her last posts, she expressed: “Thank you, universe, for being here now. I am very happy. I am happy!”

Thai authorities expressed their condolences for the incident and stated that it serves as a harsh reminder of the dangers posed by monsoon conditions. “The authorities urge visitors to exercise extreme caution and avoid rocky coastal areas during periods of high waves,” officials stated, according to 20 Minutos.

Chaiyaporn Subprasert, head of the Koh Samui Rescue Center, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety warnings during the monsoon season. “During the rough sea season, we continuously issue warnings to tourists. Chaweng and Lamai beaches are marked with red flags, warning not to swim,” he stated, as reported by Tiền Phong. He added that the area where the accident occurred is not a place where tourists usually go swimming but a viewpoint, as reported by Die Welt.

Following the tragic incident, local authorities have restricted access to the rocky area below the Lad Koh viewpoint to enhance safety and prevent further accidents, according to NST Online.

Belyatskaya’s death has made headlines worldwide, with reports circulating on social media and local media showing her practicing yoga before the incident, as reported by Die Welt. Footage captured the moment a giant wave struck and swept her into the sea, showing her struggling against strong currents before succumbing to the turbulent waters, according to NST Online.

On social media, friends and fans expressed shock and sorrow over her sudden passing, remembering her as an actress with a lively spirit and love for life.

Her tragic death serves as a reminder of the need to respect weather conditions and local warnings when visiting tourist destinations, especially during seasons with weather disturbances. Tourists are advised to remain vigilant and prioritize safety while enjoying coastal locations.

Koh Samui is a popular tourist destination in Thailand, comprising many islands such as Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, and is the second-largest island in the country, receiving millions of visitors each year, including a growing number of Russian citizens.

Belyatskaya’s fiancé, Grigory Anokin, expressed his heartbreak upon hearing the news of her disappearance. “I prayed for a miracle, but she returned as a corpse,” he said, highlighting the shock of their impending marriage, according to Tiền Phong.

Friends and fans continue to mourn her loss, with her tragic death serving as a somber reminder of the importance of heeding safety warnings and being cautious during dangerous weather conditions.
