Kate McCulley Left Her Old Life Behind to Travel the World on Her Own

Becoming a full-time traveler requires a lot of courage and sacrifice and no one knows this better than Kate McCulley. She left her old life behind to travel the world on her own and she’s encouraging other women to give solo travel a shot after over a decade on the road.

McCulley is originally from the Boston area, and she spent a lifetime dreaming of traveling the world before she finally decided to do something about it. She was 26 when she decided to leave her job behind after spending years establishing a career in online marketing.

She was planning to embark on a six-month trip across Southeast Asia, but six months quickly turned into years. McCulley has been traveling since 2010, visited over 80 countries and seven continents, and experienced things she couldn’t have even dreamed of.

“I’ve been shipwrecked in Indonesia. I’ve gone swimming in the frigid waters of Antarctica. I’ve partied with Ernest Hemingway lookalikes in Key West, cheered on the world air guitar champions in Finland, and danced until dawn with fire-throwing Vikings in the Shetland Islands,” writes McCulley on her blog.

Since she already had experience in online marketing, McCulley decided to start her own blog Adventurous Kate. Travel blogging quickly became her full-time job and she’s constantly sharing solo travel tips and tricks with other women, in an attempt to encourage them to travel the world on their own.
