Little Big Town, the acclaimed country music quartet comprising Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet brought holiday cheer with their special, Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry. The two-hour event aired on December 16, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with an encore presentation on December 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. For those who missed the broadcast, the special is available for streaming on Peacock.
Holiday Classics
Filmed at Nashville’s historic Grand Ole Opry, the special brought a festive blend of holiday classics and unique collaborations. In addition to hosting duties, Little Big Town performed alongside a star-studded lineup, including Kate Hudson, Kelsea Ballerini, and other notable artists.
This holiday special was one they had been looking forward to for years. “We’ve been singing Christmas music for a long time. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for almost 25 years, but making other studio records, touring and kids all happened,” Fairchild told Rolling Stone.
Little Big Town, known for their harmonious vocals and hits like “Girl Crush” and “Pontoon,” has a longstanding relationship with the Grand Ole Opry, a venue that holds significant sentimental value for the band. In fact, Opry member and friend Reba McEntire was the one who invited the band to join the Grand Ole Opry in 2014.
Beyond the Music
Beyond their professional endeavors, the band members share close personal bonds. Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook are married, as are Kimberly Schlapman and her husband, Stephen Schlapman. These relationships contribute to the group’s cohesive dynamic, both on and off the stage.
Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry is poised to be a highlight of the holiday season, offering viewers a blend of traditional Christmas music and contemporary country flair. The special not only showcased the band’s musical talents but also celebrated the spirit of the season in one of country music’s most revered venues.
