Most people see ghosts as spooky creatures and aren’t too fond of the idea of running into them, but not Maikki of Mai Darling Designs. This talented clay artist is taking Instagram by storm with her ceramics ghosties and her creations will change the way you look at ghosts.
Maikki attracted over 60,000 followers to her Instagram page with her adorable clay creations, but how did her obsession with ceramics art start? She was just three when she discovered the magical world of ceramics while watching a TV show where a clay artist would sculpt animals and tell stories.
This show left a huge impression on the young Maikki and she always dreamed about sculpting figures that look just as good. Three decades later, her dream came true, and she’s creating tiny vessels of joy with one goal in mind: honoring her inner child.
The aesthetic of her clay ghosties is largely inspired by pop-culture nostalgia from the late ’80s and the early ’90s, paying homage to the stories that she grew up with.
“Things like Never Ending Story, Willow, Legend, Star Wars, Care Bears, My Little Pony etc. have had a huge impact on me when I was a child. The aesthetics, unique worlds, and stories are something that captivated me when I was a kid – they still do,” she explains on her official website.
