MaSiRo Project Aims to Open Café with Robot Maids as Servers

Being served coffee and pastries by robots might soon become a reality. That is at least what MaSiRo Project aims to achieve.

As part of the Maid Apprentice Substantiating Ideal Robot project, a group of engineers joined forces to create robot maids that could fully function as servers in a café. The team recently showcased their progress by opening a pop-up café in Akihabara, Tokyo.

For a limited time, guests had the ability to sit down in the café and get their orders taken and delivered by three anime-inspired robot servers: Mashiro, Chiro, and Chiya. And the results were quite impressive.

The MaSiRo Project has been in the works for four years now. According to the lead engineer of the operation, the ultimate goal of the project is to open a Maid Robot Café, which will have robot maids as full-time serves and entertainers.

However, the team doesn’t intend to stop there. They also have plans to develop other robot maids that could help people clean around the house or do other chores.

“The MasiRo project is not a company, but a club activity that develops robots at home,” the description on their YouTube page says. “The motto is “Little by little, one step at a time, but never stop.”
