Monsieur Plant Ties Trees in Knots in His Unusual Sculptures

Trees are impressively flexible. While growing, they will bend and twist in their effort to reach the sky, but they will never break. This incredible resilience is what inspired artist Christophe Guinet’s, aka Monsieur Plant, recent series of sculptures.

The series, titled Twist, sees Guinet “tying” tree trunks into knots or shaping them into spirals. He uses plaster to form the shape before giving it a tree look. This includes using pine bark and other materials that mimic the look of a real tree.

According to Guinet, he spent parts of his childhood in the countryside, which allowed him to get in touch with nature growing up. Even after he became older and set on an artistic journey in the urban environment, working on street art and graffiti, this talented artist continued to nurture his connection with plants and trees.

“It was during my walks in the forest that I was inspired for this project,” Guinet told Colossal in a recent chat.

He adds that by observing the “unusual, unique, humorous shapes,” that tree takes on while growing, he remained in awe of nature’s adaptability and decided to showcase it in Twist. Continue scrolling to check out more of his intriguing works.
