Rita Synnøve Sharma is a 24-year-old self-taught, Norway-based, makeup artist who used makeup to distract herself from the eating disorder she was struggling with.

“Makeup became my safe space, where I could hide from the world and only focus on creating art,” artist shared. “Makeup helped with my eating disorders and opened a whole new world for me.”

In 2018, the half-Indian and half-Norwegian artist won the Nordic face awards, and that’s when she decided to take her artistry to a whole other level: she began playing with lighting.

“I got a pretty cool glow effect by cutting some holes in a black t-shirt and putting it over my softbox,” Rita explained. “That’s how I got the idea of doing makeup that glows in the dark. After a lot of practice and misses, I’ve gotten the hang of using the UV paint, light and also how I can manipulate lighting to mimic the glowing effect.”
