Many artists use pop culture as their main source of inspiration, and makeup artists are no different. Ryan Kelly is a case in point, and she’ll leave you speechless with her amazing makeup looks that use her own lips as a canvas.
Kelly attracted almost 100,000 followers since starting her Instagram page, and she’s becoming quite a TikTok sensation these days, with over 70,000 followers and 2.5 million views. Her makeup art is mostly pop-culture inspired and she’s constantly transforming her lips into a miniature work of art.
At the very start of her lip art journey, Kelly spent six to seven hours creating each look because everything was painted freehand. After giving birth to her daughter, her priorities changed—and so did her technique. She discovered the magic of transfer paper and never looked back!
“My technique has certainly evolved. I definitely look back on my earlier looks and cringe a bit. One thing that’s remained pretty consistent is the content. I love playing with trends and pop culture references,” Kelly told Allure.
When it comes to the themes she explores in her work, Kelly says that “anything that the collective is experiencing can be lip art.” Her work is inspired by everything from hit movies and TV shows to our favorite recording artists and viral memes.
