Sarah Lippett’s Illustrations are Raw and Sincere

We admit it – we’re suckers for graphic novels (a clever way of disguising our love of comics, perhaps). So we were thrilled to come across Sarah Lippett’s graphic memoir A Puff of Smoke, a candid (and witty) reflection about what it is like to grow up with an illness that no one can diagnose.

Lippett’s easy charm also comes across her illustrations. Though minimalist in nature, her linework captures the vulnerability of being human. “My style is different from what it was when I started 5 years ago,” said Lippett in an interview with Eardrums Pop. “I think I’m better at using color, I have more confidence with line, and I’ve started working less digitally over the past year – drawing in pencil is something I’ve come back to quite recently and I’m really enjoying it.”

Aside from her autobiographical work, Lippett also works commercially and has collaborated with publications like The New York Times, The Guardian, and Time Out. Based in London, she has also created a small buzz online. Show her some love on Instagram.
