Shannon Clegg Crafts Astonishing Vases Using Dried Flowers

Shannon Clegg is a London-based designer-maker who crafts some of the most astonishing vases we have had a chance to see lately. Her vases are made entirely out of dried and pressed flowers, serving not only as vessels but also as standalone art pieces.

Clegg was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked as a tailor and was involved in fashion. However, after being disillusioned with the fashion world due to its “issues with the ethics of production in the industry,” she moved to London where she studied Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth University and later obtained MA in Product and Furniture Design at Kingston University.

While involved in various arts and crafts disciplines, Clegg was most drawn to biophilic design, a concept that calls for connectivity to the natural environment through the use of direct and indirect nature and space and place conditions. The fascination with the concept inspired her to create a series of vase-like flower sculptures titled Bouquet.

“Through the utilization and reimagining of traditional craft skills, her practice investigates the narrative potential of making to encourage a better human-nature relationship,” her website explains.

Clegg’s unique flower vases have made rounds around the world in recent years, being exhibited across Europe, including UK, Belgium, France, and Italy. If you don’t have a chance to see them live anytime soon, the artist also shares her newest creations on her website and social media.
