]]>In order to promote their services and acquire new members, Centre County Library decided to turn to an adorable cat named Horatio for help. Horatio dresses up as characters from book and pop culture and uses his charm to help his local library get more people through the door.
This idea was conceived by bibliographic services assistant and Horatio’s owner Lisa Shaffer after she realized that the Centre County Library doesn’t have a strong social media presence. She believed that this contributed to the decline in membership, so she embarked on a mission to correct this mistake.
Shaffer’s plan worked like a charm, as internet users quickly fell in love with Horatio and flocked to the library. The Centre County Library’s membership increased as a result, and the endearing feline gained fans all over the world.
“I just started taking books, random books that would be interesting to highlight,” Shaffer revealed in a recent interview. “Or if it was an author’s birthday or anniversary of some event, I would get a picture of one of my cats, mostly Horatio, and it just kind of went from there.”
Horatio’s dress-ups now turned into a weekly thing. Shaffer picks a different subject each week and creates a fitting costume while Horatio brings it to life like a true model.

]]>Zelda caught the eye of her owner Matt Taghioff when he stumbled upon a rescue shelter ad that read, “don’t be put off by my spooked expression.” He didn’t even consider adopting any other cat but Zelda and her curious eyes were a big part of her charm.
Zelda won over his friends and family with her hilarious facial expressions, and they convinced him to start an Instagram and Twitter page for his adorable pet. Not long after taking their advice, he attracted 185,000 followers to Zelda’s Instagram page with epic photos of her permanently shocked expression, accompanied by hilarious captions.
Curious Zelda grew into such a huge internet sensation that she even became a star of her own book, The Adventures of a Curious Cat. According to Amazon’s official description, this book gives insight into Zelda’s unique view of the world. It also dispenses her unparalleled wisdom on a wide range of different subjects, from handling humans to communicating with furniture.
One thing is certain: Zelda is living proof that inspiration can come from a multitude of places.

]]>Adopted from the Lynchburg Humane Society in 2017, Merlin has outgrown his humble beginnings fairly quickly, attracting a massive fanbase, both online and offline, thanks to his charismatic character and unique features. A Napoleon cat, a rare mixed breed of a Munchkin and a Persian cat, he’s relatively small and very much fluffy. Being blind, his eyes are milky blue, which makes for a rather striking combination.
“It’s a pretty new breed–by new I mean 20 to 22 years,” explained his owners. “Napoleons are pretty small, but they’re able to move around as easily as normal-sized cats. For the most part, they inherit the Persian’s physical characteristics.”
According to the Greens, Merlin is an affectionate cat, and loves being acknowledged and held. “He’s never destructive or petty, either,” they say, adding that he doesn’t hide or avoid people and runs up to the door to greet his owners. His preferred sitting place? Someone’s lap.
