From House of the Dragon to The White Lotus, we’ve seen Twitter obsess over several HBO shows in recent months, and they’ve just found their new mark. The Last of Us premiered last weekend, and its pilot episode inspired counted viral tweets.

The Last of Us is the adaptation of the hit video game of the same name, and it premiered on HBO on January 15 after years of anticipation. This post-apocalyptic series centers on a hardened survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal), who embarks on a ruthless journey across post-pandemic America in an attempt to smuggle a young girl Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from the quarantine zone.

It’s not a shocker that this series broke the internet because fans of the original game spent a whole decade waiting for a worthy adaptation. Twitter users showered it with praise, mostly because they were impressed by how faithful the series is to the source material.

Even those poking fun at the elements of the game that were missing in the series, such as Joel’s “crab-walking”, did it in a humorous manner. Some also made jokes about being surprised by what’s happening on the screen despite playing the game countless times, and we’re expecting more funny tweets like this as the season progresses.
