Airbnb Host Had a Guest Replace a Painting in Her Apartment, Internet Wants to Know Why

Airbnb host Amy Corbett had her fair share of strange experiences with guests during her time on the popular short-term rental platform.  But seeing that guest replaced a painting in her Lynchburg, Virginia, apartment left her baffled.

Corbett recently shared a video on TikTok in which she told a story about how a guest decided to steal artwork from one of her apartments and replace it with a completely different painting.

The video received more than 7 million views and left internet users wanting to know why the guest swapped out the paintings.

Corbett later shared the footage from the surveillance camera that shows the guest carrying in the new painting and leaving the property with an original painting shortly before checkout time.

In a series of follow-up videos, Corbett debunked some theories that internet users had about the “art heist.” She also explained that neither painting was valuable but that she wanted to get to the bottom of it.

Eventually, Corbett made a claim with Airbnb for the stolen painting and received a $100 reimbursement from the company. The guest also reimbursed her $25 but didn’t want to explain his actions. He was eventually banned from the platform.

Since Corbett didn’t want to keep the new painting, she decided to organize a raffle through which the people could win it. All the proceeds would end up going to the nonprofit organization Rush Homes, which works towards addressing housing instability in Lynchburg.
