Every time we go to a flea market or garage sale, we dream about buying something for cheap and discovering it is worth a lot of money. Unfortunately, this hasn’t happened to us so far, but the fact that it happened to TikToker Justin Miller makes us want to keep trying.
Miller recently shared a video on his TikTok profile in which he detailed how he purchased a leather chair via Facebook Marketplace for $50. After doing some research, he discovered that the chair was manufactured by a company called Frits Henningsen and that two identical chairs was recently sold for close to $224,000.
In a follow-up video, Miller explained that the owner of the chair gave him a heads-up about the potential value but sold it for cheap regardless because they just wanted to “get rid of it. “
After deciding not to restore the chair, Miller contacted auction house Sotheby’s and was proposed to offer it at an “Important Design” auction in June. It is estimated that his chair could fetch a price between $30,000 and $50,000. Sotheby’s also set a reserve of $28,000, meaning that it can’t be sold for anything less than that.
