Anne Smerdon is Having the Time of Her Life Living With Her Two Parrots

Having parrots as pets isn’t an easy task and no one knows this better than the Australian artist Anne Smerdon. She’s the owner of two Indian Ringneck parrots called Vonnegut & Schiele and she’s chronicling the ups and downs of living with them on her Instagram page Facebeak.

Smerdon owned these two parrots for over a decade, but their life turned upside down when she decided to start sharing their adventures on Instagram and TikTok. They’re followed by thousands of people on both platforms, and the clips you’ll see here perfectly capture what it’s like to live with a parrot.

Indian Ringnecks parrots can be particularly difficult to take care of, and Smerdon initially joined social media to share useful tips and tricks with people who own the same species. After studying, asking for advice, and experimenting with training techniques, she decided to help other bird owners live their best life—with parrots by their side.

“The good news is Vonnegut and Schiele are living proof that all parrots can be delightful, easy pets to own; parrots that shower you with kisses each morning and squeal with delight when you blow raspberries on their tummy,” writes Smerdon on Facebeak’s official website.

Since finding success through social media, Smerdon also wrote two e-books for bird owners, called Living with Parrots and Solving Parrot Problems.
