Artist Doodles on Clouds to Turn Them Into Charming Illustrations

Clouds come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. And more often than not, their form reminds us of a particular animal, person, or object. Inspired by this, the artist Chris Judge started a series of charming illustrations called A Daily Cloud.

When he spots a cloud that reminds him of something, Judge snaps a photo. He then doodles on it to turn it into a recognizable shape. His interventions are usually minimalistic, consisting of simple pencil lines, but they end up being surprisingly effective.

According to Judge, he got an idea for A Daily Cloud in 2020 when he spent a lot of time in his garden with the rest of the family. One evening, he spotted “beautiful pink clouds that looked like a monkey and a bear” and had to snap a few photos before they went away. Looking at the photos, he decided to bring out the image he had in his head with a few lines and share it on social media.

Judge’s work was met with positive reactions from social media users, prompting him to make A Daily Cloud Instagram page and continue posting similar content. The page now has more than 500K followers, with many of them taking part in Judge’s creative process by providing him with an endless supply of cloud photos he can doodle on.
