Kanat Nurtazin is taking the world by storm in a way that we haven’t seen before. Using leaves as his personal canvas for greatness, he cuts out detailed designs that feature people, animals, and fictional characters.
“I like to cut detailed drawings on the leaf and take a picture of it on a beautiful background mixing handmade art and photography,” he tells My Modern Met.
It takes him around two hours to finish each leaf before he photographs it against a background of his choice. The backgrounds usually include blue skies, white clouds, cityscapes, trees, or even pink water!
His more complex works often require much more time than two hours, but the result makes it worth it. It’s common for him to have a “leaf break”, which means that whenever he tries to take a photo, he already starts working on another one.
