Retoolings Makes Crayons Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Alaska-based Keetra Dean Dixon is the creative mind behind Retoolings, a brand of wonderful crayons that are too pretty to be used for their intended purpose. Dixon blends different colors into geometric shapes and asymmetric pieces that are works of art, not just creative tools.

The artist and her partner used to make large-scale sculptures that inspired them to make these crayon miniature. “While making the works, we followed the wax’s lead, letting the nature of the material guide the final form,” Dixon tells Colossal.

“So many beautiful bloopers happened alongside the main sculpture,” she continued. “It was difficult to keep myself from chasing the potential of those moments. That’s why this quirky collection exists today and we’re absolutely in love with it.”

In the future, Retoolings will include other creative tools like ballpoint pens, pencils, erasers, and markers.

Dixon sold out everything she made so far, but she plans to make more at the beginning of 2021. If you’re interested in following her work, check out her Instagram.
