Sion Kwak is an incredibly talented tattoo artist from South Korea whose delicate body artworks resemble traditional Korean motifs. Kwak’s signature style involves norigae illustrations. Norigae is a traditional Korean accessory often seen hanging from traditional women’s attire. It’s an important part of the cultural heritage, which is why the artist wanted to celebrate it in her own way.
Kwak skillfully paints the knots, beads, and tassels with many details so they look like they’re floating over the person’s skin. She limits the color palette to traditional red, black, green, and yellow to mimic the traditional items even better.
Aside from creating these minimalist norigae tattoos, Kwak also combines these elements into more complex body art. Some of her designs show amazing botanical art, animals, or simple pieces of thread that are very effective despite their simplicity.
