Beekeeper Creates Intriguing Encaustic Artworks

Ava Roth is a Canadian artist and beekeeper who you previously had the opportunity to meet through her “Honeycomb collection,” in which she uses the help of local honeybees to create part-embroidery and part-honeycomb artworks. But it turns out there is more to this “inter-species collaboration.”

While the “Honeycomb collection” contains her most-recognizable works, Roth creates various other types of art using material sourced from honeybees. This includes a series of intriguing encaustic artworks.

“Combining techniques from both fine art and crafts, these collections also use natural materials and processes to explore the intersection between human beings and the natural world,” she explains on her website.

Roth’s encaustic artworks are quite diverse and represent a combination of her interests. Aside from traditional encaustic paintings, Roth also creates encaustic pieces that contain embroidery or combine photographs or threads.

In making these artworks, Roth stays true to her connection to nature. They often capture beautiful Canadian landscapes like Hardwood Lake, changing seasons, or objects from nature like tree trunks and leaves.

Roth is represented by Ottawa’s Wallspace Gallery, where you can check out her works in person. In case you don’t have the opportunity to do that, continue scrolling to see more of her encaustic artwork below.
