BirKim Bags—Kimberley Williamson’s Ceramic Bags Will Put a Smile on Your Face

You’ve probably heard of Birkin bags—after all, most fashionistas dream of owning one despite their sky-high price tag—but how about BirKim Bags? This is the name of a quirky brand of ceramic carrier bags, founded by the ceramic artist Kimberley Williamson.

Williamson’s journey into the world of ceramic art started with a block of clay she had lying around at home. She wanted to put it to some good use and create something fun, quirky, and different—and that’s how BirKim Bags were born.

“There is something great about the style and design on plastic bags, although their single use consumption is a massive issue so I wanted to make something that would have pride of place in homes and create conversations,” explained Williamson on her official website.

Williamson wanted her bags to be functional, not just decorative, and she certainly succeeded in that task. Using them instead of regular bags probably isn’t a good idea because they’re too fragile and tiny, but they make for great planters and containers.

Another thing we love about Williamson’ designs is the vibrant color palette and positive vibe. Some of them feature smiley faces, while others come with sarcastic captions, such as “no thank you, go away” and “thanks for nothing”, and that’s part of their quirky charm.
