When we first stumbled upon Blue Rare’s Instagram page we weren’t sure what we came across. The phrase “everything and the kitchen sink” comes to mind as there’s so much crammed into these digital works. It turns out that Blue Rare is the moniker of a 19-year-old college student in Washington named Audrey who was raised in Texas.
She’s been creating things for as long as she can remember; creating clothes for her Barbies back in elementary school, hoarding anime clips for AMVS in middle school, and making Soundcloud mixes in high school. Blue Rare’s always been a fan of drawing and she began using digital art a year ago. She decided to take a year off between high school and college to focus on her drawing and that’s when Blue Rare was formed. Although, she originally conceived of it as a clothing brand for her illustrations before moving into digital art forms.
Inspired by anything and everything and recently obsessed with all things festivities, she told It’s Nice That, “I find a way to work anything that strikes me into my art.”
Audrey describes her artwork as “weird, colourful, kinda cute, kinda creepy, shit crammed together” and each piece is unique and unlike anything we’ve seen before.
