British Diver Went Viral for Knitting a Dog Sweater at the Olympics

Tom Daley won a gold medal in synchronized diving for Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but that’s not what made him go viral online. As his colleagues were competing in other disciplines, he was seen on the stands with knitting needles, making a dog sweater.

As it turns out, the diver started knitting and crocheting as a hobby during the first Coronavirus lockdown. He ended up loving the craft and now takes every opportunity he can to make something with yarn. He even made a dedicated Instagram account (@madewithlovebytomdaley), where he wrote, “Learning to knit and crochet has helped me so much through these Olympics.”

As My Modern Met mentions, Daley revealed what he was working on at the moment the photos were taken—he was making a sweater for a dog client, Instagram famous Izzy the Frenchie. Another adorable thing he made was a tiny Union Jack bag for his Olympics gold medal, as well as numerous colorful pieces for his husband and son.
