]]>The post Black Dragon Owner Cheyenne Acero Glass is a Real-Life Khaleesi appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>Water monitors are commonly known as black dragons, and they’re one of the largest lizard species in the world. They became a pretty popular species thanks to their distinctive color, and Glass was immediately drawn to them. She’s the owner of two black dragons – Kayda and Killua – in addition to sharing her home with several dogs and cats.
Despite inspiring many people to welcome a black dragon into their homes, Glass wouldn’t recommend it to just anyone. They’re not an average house pet, and it takes a lot of time, energy, patience, and money, to take proper care of them.
“I get a little concerned with how many people ask where they can buy a black dragon. I make keeping [Kayda and Killua] look easy and it is for me but it wasn’t always easy. It was a lot of hard work and I still socialize with them on a daily basis,” she explains on her Instagram.

]]>The post Rachel Altschuler Creates Amazing Oil Portraits of Birds appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>Altschuler creates oil portraits of birds that capture all of their beauty, personalities, and unique features that make them so captivating. Her works feature an array of different bird species, ranging from tiny, colorful birds like hummingbirds to larger birds like flamingos.
According to Altschuler, she was always attracted to birds’ unique energy and spirits, and over the years, they became her favorite subject.
“Every type of bird has its own set of personality traits, which I try to bring out by painting them in portrait style, and by paying special attention to detail in the eyes. The fun part for me is watching their personalities come to life with each brush stroke,” the artist explains on her website.
Altschuler’s bird portraits have gained her recognition in the art community and among art collectors. Her works are currently on display in several galleries in the United States, and she plans to open her own gallery later in 2024.
Those who don’t have the opportunity to see these amazing bird portraits in person can check them out through Altschuler’s Instagram page, where the artist regularly shares her newest pieces.

]]>The post Ellen Jewett’s Animal & Plant Sculptures are Out of This World appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>Jewett is a sculpture artist based in Canada, and her hyperrealist sculptures are inspired by her love of the fantastic, grotesque, and absurd. Each of her sculptures is unique in its own right, and it takes her a lot of time and energy to finish each one.
A single glance at her sculptures makes it clear that nature is her main driving force, but she sees them as a meditation between the physical and psychological world.
“My inspirations are indeed biological – plants, animals, and environments – but the lens is a psychological one and I think that’s where surrealism comes in. It is our interpretation and relationship to wild things and their general otherness which I find supremely fascinating,” Jewett told Now Then Magazine.
She usually uses air-drying polymer, paper clay, cold porcelain, acrylic paints, glass, and resin to bring her sculptures to life. She embarked on quite a journey to find materials she can use because she wanted to avoid working with toxic materials.

]]>The post Animals Emerge From Carpet Surfaces in Debbie Lawson’s Sculptures appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>The orientation of sculptures created by Lawson plays a significant part in the way they are perceived by viewers. Vertical sculptures make it seem like the animals are jumping out of the rugs, trying to break free into the outside world.
Horizontal sculptures, on the other hand, feature animals blending into their surroundings, using the patterns and colors of the surface as their camouflage.
In both cases, the flat rugs both conceal and amplify the features of the animals while making these sculptures cross the line between two-dimensional and three-dimensional works.
Using traditional carpets as a surface for her works plays an important role for Lawson as the artist wants to bring their art component, which is often overlooked, to prominence.
“Sometimes my work is inspired by the hidden life of everyday objects, and other times by what I see as the aspirational side or the rebellious side,” Lawson shared ahead of her exhibition at New York City’s Sargent’s Daughters art gallery.

]]>Born in Seattle, Washington, O’Dell spent most of her childhood living on the Big Island of Hawai’i. There, her parents had an art studio where they crafted all sorts of glass sculptures and artworks, prompting her interest in the medium. At the same time, she was surrounded by captivating natural beauties and diversity, becoming interested in Oceanography and Astronomy, among other fields.
O’Dell later followed her parents’ footsteps in exploring glass art while her island upbringing and interest in nature led her to pick out extinct marine animals as the main subjects of her creative efforts.
“Glass often evokes a perceived fragility. With wafer-thin screen-printed glass powders, I am able to convey the commonly perceived fragility of glass within a theme like animal extinction,” O’Dell explains on her website. “In contrast, Glass can also be massive and impervious. By casting thick blocks of transparent glass embedded with patterned inclusions, I try to communicate hope in Nature’s persistence.”

]]>The post This Beaver Taking a Bath is the Cutest Thing Ever appeared first on https://everydaymonkey.com.
]]>In the video, posted by Facebook user Hisao Kanno, the beaver, with its rich, brown fur glistening in the water, starts by rubbing its tummy with its dexterous front paws. It’s a careful, thorough process, and looks like a toddler enjoying a playful bath. Then, the beaver moves on to its head and face. He’s scrubbing with such earnestness that we can almost imagine him relaxing after a hard day’s work building dams and foraging.
As the beaver continues, washing his back and legs with the same level of attention, the video becomes more than just a cute clip. It’s a rare glimpse into the surprisingly intricate world of wildlife behaviors. This little beaver, behaving so much like a human in its bathing routine, narrows the gap between the wild and the familiar. It’s really a moment of connection that resonates.

]]>Considering that Papa Legba left the house wearing nothing but its fur, this naturally stirred up the TikToker’s curiosity. The mystery became even more intriguing when that happened several more times, prompting @wedonotownacat to share the story in a video posted on social media.
“Whose litterbox have your paws been in? Mom reports he has never allowed them to put sweaters on him before,” @wedonotownacat captioned the clip.
Determined to get to the bottom of this, @wedonotownacat devised a plan to get more familiar with their neighbors and try to see where Papa Legba found his other family. She baked some cookies and gave them around the neighborhood while asking around, but had little success.
Other TikTok users were just as fascinated with the mystery, with some theories offered in the comments section.
“Maybe kitty has been out shopping, check your credit cards,” one user jokingly commented.
Others suggested putting a note on Papa Legba’s collar and see whether the cat’s second family responds.
Hopefully, this mystery gets solved quickly because we are also eager to find out more about Papa Legba’s secret life.

]]>Barkman has been passionate about comics for a long time, and he initially started drawing them while working for a university newspaper. His passion for photography and videography helped him polish his story-telling skills, but his love for drawing eventually carried him forward and kept growing as the years went by.
We’ve seen Barkman explore many different subjects since starting his Instagram page False Knees, which is now followed by over 700,000 people. The days of drawing humans are now long behind him, and he mostly focuses on the natural world, shifting our perspective about certain animals and showing them in a hilarious new light, starting with birds.
“Animals are way more fun to draw than me! It also gives me a chance to play on people’s expectations of common North American city animals. We share our space with these creatures who go largely forgotten, and I like the idea of giving them a voice,” he told Go Comics.
