Popular culture served as a major source of inspiration for many artists who found viral fame on Instagram, but there’s something that sets Celine Westlund apart. Instead of simply recreating artwork from her favorite movies, books, and TV shows, she’s reimagining them as peaceful and dreamy landscape paintings.
Westlund has always been a creative soul, and she enjoyed expressing her vibrant personality through everything from arts and crafts to her outfits. She fell in love with crocheting in 2019 and thought this was her true calling, but something shifted when she started working on her landscape paintings.
“My creative journey then led me to making rugs, and eventually, to abstract art. I started by painting broad, rough strokes and weaving yarn into the canvas. For a while, I thought yarn would always be my primary medium – but I was wrong,” she explained on her official website.
Westlund now focuses on painting semi-abstract landscapes, and she wants her work to evoke a sense of peace and joy. They’re inspired by her life-long fascination with texture and color and often feature birds and other animals. Many of her paintings found viral fame on social media because they’re inspired by beloved books and movies, such as Twilight, Harry Potter, and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
