Benjamin Sack’ Elaborate Drawings Capture the Architecture of Cities He Visits on a Cruise Ship

American artist Benjamin Sack spent the last 10 years working as a resident artist for the cruise company Holland America Line. During that time, he had the opportunity to travel to all sorts of destinations and these journeys inspired him to create a series of elaborate drawings that capture the architecture of the cities he visited.

Sack’s drawings are packed with buildings, roads, fortresses, monuments, and everything else that can be found in one city. They usually represent a fusion of sources, leading to intriguing pieces where different styles of architecture come together in a seamless way thanks to the artist’s meticulous attention to detail and exquisite execution.

A single piece could feature Florence’s Duomo, Singapore’s Marina Bay, and the tall buildings of New York City, and neither would look out of place.

According to Sack, his unique monochromatic style is influenced by historical cartography and architectural drawings.

“Influenced by historical cartography, symphonic orchestration, architectural drawing and extensive travel, my work engages architecture as a vehicle for expressing uncommon perspectives and vantages of tremendous detail; cultivating a geometric idealism reaching continually into the realm of the infinite,” Sack shares on his website.
