Each country comes with its own unique folk tales that had a great impact on artists who grew up with them. That’s certainly the case with Barbara of Alcyone Crystals, who’s crafting whimsical jewelry inspired by myths and legends from her country of Croatia.
Barbara is currently based in Sweden, but her jewelry provides a strong link to the small Mediterranean Slavic country where she grew up. She spent her childhood listening to her grandma’s stories about fairies in forests and fields that once inhabited their land.
These stories were more than just old folk tales for Barbara, and she decided to immortalize them through her whimsical and dreamy jewelry.
“I make the jewelry intuitively, I let the crystal to tell its story through my hands, and this is how real magical things are made, where little elves, fairies, mermaids and angels are born. When I make my jewelry I use materials from nature,” Barabara explains on her Etsy page.
Since she avoids using all products of animal origin in her work, Barabara usually relies on crystals to create something extraordinary. She’s been fascinated by them since her childhood years and she believes they can repair our energy and help it flow freely.
