Han Hsu-Tung Crafts Impressive Pixelated Wooden Sculptures

When watching Han Hsu-Tung’s sculptures, you may feel like you’re in a glitch. That is exactly what this Taiwanese artist is aiming for with his wooden artworks.

Hsu-Tung’s primary subjects are animals and people. His works are an intriguing blend of high-detailed wood carving on one side and pixilated distortion on the other one. From one point of view, his sculptures look like they are disintegrating in front of your eyes. Then when you look again, it might seem like the pieces were coming together to form a figure before being frozen in time.

The unique concept of Hsu-Tung’s artistic work has made him one of the most recognizable wood artists in the world. However, he went a long way to reach this point.

Being passionate about woodworking from a young age, Hsu-Tung made a tough decision to study Anthropology instead of Fine Arts. After finishing his studies, he started working a day job, but his love for art never veined. Instead, he would spend his free time working on new pieces and honing his skills.

Hsu-Tung’s effort finally paid off in the early ’90s when he held his first exhibit. His works were well received by the public and art critics, encouraging him to focus on his art career full-time.

Since then, Hsu-Tung has become a well-respected name in the art world, with his works being exhibited all over the world. Check out more of them below.
