Ellie Costello’s Terrarium Eye Makeup Has to be Seen to be Believed

Eye makeup has significantly evolved in style and complexity over the years, and some artists are taking it to such new heights they would put the Euphoria makeup department to shame. Ellie Costello is one of them, and her nature-inspired terrarium eye makeup has to be seen to be believed.

Costello was still a teen when she decided to give makeup art a shot, but her youth didn’t stop her from creating something extraordinary. Her Instagram page @makeupisart_x has attracted over 60,000 followers and she’s been credited for putting the terrarium eye trend on the map.

Costello’s makeup creations look like a living garden because she uses 3-D appliqués to give her makeup looks a natural vibe. They’re usually shaped like flowers and tiny blooms, and she tapes them on her eyelids and sometimes even on her whole face.

Terrarium eyes became such a huge hit thanks to Costello that she was featured in many high-profile publications, such as Vogue and Marie Claire, and even worked as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics.

We’ve seen her use florals to explore many themes over the years, from delicate English and French gardens to wild and untamed woodlands. Sticking flowers, leaves, and petals onto her lids allowed her to create many whimsical looks in combination with regular makeup products.
