Every country and culture is unique in their own way. And while the locals would find their customs quite normal, to others they might appear hilarious. That’s why Joel Willans from Finland decided to start an Instagram page where he would share the problems Finns face daily.
It all started as a bet with one of his clients, which later resulted in a successful Facebook and Instagram page, as well as the Very Finnish Problem books, Twitter, YouTube channel, and a thriving website.
“The bet was made during Finnish winter, which was typically dark and very, very cold. The pavements were super slippery, and it was taking me ages to walk to work, and I remember thinking how winter is trying to kill me, and what a very Finnish problem that is,” Willans told Bored Panda in an interview.
He then explained that Very Finnish Problems are usually observations dramatized or exaggerated for comic effect.
“Normally, they come from things I’ve experienced or conversations I’ve had, which seem more strange to a foreigner than a native Finn,” he explained.
