If you love fashion and food equally, Friends of Monami is about to become your new obsession. This quirky brand specializes in crafting adorable purses that look just like beautifully decorated retro cakes.
Friends of Monami was founded by an artist named Amy in late 2021 and it didn’t take her long to attract 50,000 followers to her Instagram page. In her bio, she explains she’s making “cake objects for the eyes and hands only” and they’re actually not edible despite their realistic design.
When she first started this brand, Amy’s main goal was to express her love for the vintage style of cake decorating through timeless objects, including bags and purses.
“Much of my work is inspired by the styles of Norman Wilton and Joseph Lambeth, as well as vintage fashion and decor (1800s-1900s). My goal in creating @friendsofmonami is to explore and preserve the art of cake decorating, by creating cake objects that last forever,” writes Amy on her official website.
Amy’s bags look just like the real thing, but they’re actually made with spackle, and she usually applies multiple coats of glaze for extra protection. Many of them are shaped like bags, while others look like regular cakes but can actually be used as trinket boxes.
